MEDICAL TRIVIA
(PHYSIOLOGY)
If someone is experiencing a reaction to food poisoning, what is the correct way to manage and treat the symptoms
What procedure would you follow if you witness a patient experiencing a seizure
-Ensure the patient’s safety by clearing the area of potential hazards.
Do not restrain the patient or place anything in their mouth.
Position the patient on their side to maintain an open airway and reduce the risk of aspiration.
Time the seizure. If it lasts longer than 5 minutes or repeats without recovery, call for emergency intervention and administer rescue medications (e.g., benzodiazepines).
After the seizure subsides, reassure the patient, check vital signs, and evaluate the need for further medical attention.
What procedure would you follow if a patient that has entered the hospital has a broken forearm
-Assess the injury: check for deformity, swelling, open wounds, and circulation distal to the fracture (e.g., capillary refill and pulse).
Immobilize the arm using a splint or sling to prevent further injury.
Manage pain with appropriate analgesics.
If the fracture is open or shows compromised blood flow, treat as a medical emergency.
Obtain X-rays to confirm the fracture and determine the treatment plan (casting, reduction, or surgery).
What procedure would you follow if a patient enters the hospital struggling to breathe
(PSYCHIATRY)
A patient is experiencing a panic attack before an important procedure. How would you assist the patient?
-Remain calm and establish a supportive presence.
Encourage the patient to focus on slow, deep breaths (e.g., using the 4-7-8 breathing technique).
Reassure them with simple, clear statements like, "You're safe, and we’ll take this one step at a time."
If appropriate, use grounding techniques (e.g., describing surroundings to shift focus from internal stress).
Depending on severity, consider administering prescribed anti-anxiety medications.
A belligerent patient in the middle of a psychotic episode stumbles into the emergency room. What should you do?
-Prioritize safety for all individuals by ensuring the environment is secure.
Approach the patient in a calm, non-threatening manner, using clear and simple communication.
Avoid confrontation and offer choices to de-escalate their behavior.
Engage a trained mental health professional or security if necessary.
Administer sedatives or antipsychotics as prescribed if the patient becomes a danger to themselves or others.
Which neurotransmitter is most commonly associated with depression
-Serotonin, which is most commonly associated with depression, though norepinephrine and dopamine also play significant roles!!
What does the Acronym [PTSD] stand for, and what does it entail
-PTSD stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is a mental health condition triggered by witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event. :( Symptoms include intrusive memories, avoidance, hyperarousal, and negative changes in mood or cognition. THE INTERVIEW
[Congratulations! Your character scored an interview, please answer the following all in ICLY fashion]
The Hospital Director takes a seat at their desk, clasping their hands together with a calm gaze as they greet the individual. Their desk is clean and pristine, aside from a half-filled tea cup that continues to steam, giving the room a lovely aroma.
Seated in the quiet stillness of the room, he let his dark blue eyes lock onto the man who had just entered, tracking every deliberate step with a quiet intensity. Shimizu’s gaze lingered, studying the subtle shifts in the other’s posture and the weight of his soul. After a moment, he shifted in his chair, adjusting his position with a fluid grace, one leg crossing neatly over the other. Straightening his posture, he leaned slightly forward, a mixture of anticipation and curiosity flickering in his expression as he silently waited for the man’s words to break the tension hanging in the air.
“Good afternoon. I will be conducting your interview today. Could I have your full name as well as your age and date of birth, please?”
-
Would fix his posture as he spoke in a low tone. "Lovely to meet you, I’m Shimizu Tomohiro. I am thirty three years old... OH, I was born 1992 September 6" He scratched his neck as he looked around the room before resting his eyes on the person interviewing him
“Very nice. Now, could you tell me a little more about yourself? Do you have a family, perhaps some motivations behind why you’d like to work here?”
-
He offered a soft smile as he got asked about his family “I am a single father with two kids a young boy and a girl sadly there mother is no longer in the picture and I don’t have any other family then them I am trying be financially stable as to keep my family together” He stated this with a sigh and ran his hand through his cut hair. It can be assumed it hasn’t been short for long.
“Would you like us to refer to you by your surname or first name? As well as what honorifics you’d like.”
(San, Chan, Kun, Shi, etc.)
-He would let out a low chuckle as closed his eyes to speak. He was rarely asked this “I would like to be called by my first name Shimizu and the honorific would be Sama or san.”
The director nods in affirmation, now understanding the type of person the individual was and readjusts their posture, taking a sip of that aromatic green tea before continuing to speak.
Would nod his head attentive listening, his eyes scanning the room a few times before landing back on the Director.
“It is nice meeting you, then. Now, Let us move on to some more important questions regarding your role.”
Shimizu would offer a polite nod, his posture straightening slightly to convey his attentiveness.
"Likewise, it’s been a pleasure meeting you," he’d reply with a faint, respectful smile. "I’m ready to address any questions you have regarding the role. Please, go ahead." His tone would be steady and professional, signaling his readiness to engage in a deeper discussion.
“A patient arrives with a severe injury and is panicking uncontrollably. Walk me through how you would handle this situation.”
“During an emergency, if any other hospital staff are unavailable however there is a patient in need, can we trust you to stabilize them or treat them to an acceptable degree?”
-Shimizu would sit up straighter, his expression firm but calm, exuding confidence as he met the question head-on. "Of course," he’d say, his voice steady and unwavering. "In an emergency, if no other staff are available, you can absolutely trust me to stabilize or treat a patient to an acceptable degree. My training and experience have prepared me for high-pressure situations where swift, decisive action is required. My priority will always be to preserve life, mitigate harm, and provide the best possible care within the scope of the resources available at that moment." His gaze would sharpen slightly, conveying his focus and determination. "I understand the gravity of such situations and the responsibility that comes with them. Whether it’s performing CPR, managing trauma, controlling bleeding, or stabilizing vitals, I am confident in my ability to act effectively and ensure the patient has the best chance of recovery." Leaning forward slightly, his tone would soften but remain firm, a testament to his dedication.
"I take that trust seriously. It’s not just about knowledge or skills…it’s about being the person people can rely on when it matters most. You have my word that I will rise to the occasion, every time."
“Could you run me through on the plethora of equipment you may find within your personal office if you are to be given the role of a resident? Just simply medical equipment.”
-Shimizu would sit back in his chair, crossing one leg over the other as he considered the question. His fingers lightly tapped against the armrest, and after a moment, he’d nod thoughtfully before responding. "Well," he’d start, his tone professional but approachable, "if I were to be given the role of a resident, my personal office would be equipped with the essentials for effective patient care and examination. You’d find a diagnostic set, of course ophthalmoscope and otoscope included + because quick and accurate assessments are critical. A stethoscope naturally, and a selection of blood pressure cuffs for various patient sizes." His gaze would shift momentarily, as if visualizing the space."There’d also be a reflex hammer, tuning forks for neurological assessments, and a portable pulse oximeter can’t go without that these days. For more procedural needs, a medical-grade thermometer, tongue depressors, and a glucometer would be readily available. And let’s not forget the basics like sterile gloves, alcohol swabs, and a suture kit, just in case a quick fix is needed on the spot." His tone would soften slightly, a hint of enthusiasm creeping in as he continued. "I’d also ensure there’s a supply of disposable syringes and needles for vaccinations or injections, along with a sharps container because safety first. Maybe even an EKG monitor, if the space allows. It’s always better to be prepared for emergencies." He’d smile faintly, folding his hands in his lap. "That’s just a general rundown, of course. Adaptability and thorough preparation are key, don’t you think?"
Any extra information you’d like to add
I am grateful for the time taken to read over this. Most items and references I used were from a few hours of research. So apologies if they aren’t exactly right.
Can you provide a reference to your character's appearance?
The man standing before you was Shimizu Tomohiro. Eldest son of the Tomohiros and he held himself with pride. The first thing you can notice is the harshly scarred face and lack of eye. The remaining one was a deep sea blue color… His hair was cut short but a deep black color as his skin was tanned to a reddish tone
