CHARACTERS?!?!?!?!

Since we all love roleplay and chjaracters and all,, what is your favourite thing to do when making a character? is there a specific routine you follow? a set of steps? is there a certain method you use to make your characters?!?!

For me, I like to start with the 'theme' - which usually begins with some for of inspriation. Once I decide a character's theme : cruelty, time, deciet, peace, and what have you - I USUALLY, find some music to accompy said theme and begin making sketches of the character, which helps me then later decide key traits, lore, and the rest flows pretty smoothly!!

what about you lot?

Is it safe for me to say that I already have a list of different chars for YRP and that said list already has 16 different char ideas? ๐Ÿ‘€

A lot of the times, if I have a certain idea/style in mind, then I usually find something I like (like certain outfits or like color theme and so on), then I can make a char out of it! (So, yeah...)

I also do really love seeing other people's chars and showing off my own, which maybe I will do one day! (I'm planning on making bio's for two-three of them already :3)

For characters I also start with a theme, or aesthetic! It depends on the environment they are in though.
I can't say I like seeing an out of place character in the wrong environment! EX: If you bring to a medieval character to modern era.. it's just cringe man!
I hope and pray to see uniquely made characters! :)
If you wanna share your characters feel free to DM me I love hearing about them!

I have so many characters- it should be a crime, but I think my favorite part about making the characters, is writing their lore and also describe them as much as I can so people can basically paint a picture of the character in their mind before seeing the art or pictures of them. I even make like- Pinterest boards for them So I can get a feel of them!

For me is finding the inspirations, and writing their lore. I mostly take like, my favorite series or even a character from a game, i don't really follow the same lore as them as i'd prefer making my own lore from scratch. But i do take some information or even a unique piece of them that i apply to that character. It's also fun if i played the character IN a mc rp, i do tailoring myself and it's fun to make the outfits for your own character.. though sometimes i commission someone if i'm not in the mood to do so.

Honestly, my favourite thing to do when making a character (or one of them at least,) is to figure out how they interact with others. Figuring out how they treat others, what personalities they clash with and why, as well as what types of people they mesh well with is always fun, and sometimes these discoveries come about later on when playing the character!

My character making process is... Very much all over the place. Usually something sparks inspiration, such as a song, quote, art piece, or even a dream! Once I have this inspiration, I start branching off from it. I find media that fits the main idea or aesthetic of the character, take some personality quizzes to see what kind of weirdo this new brain worm is. Drawing the character and figuring out their design helps too, but there's really no specific formula for me when it comes to making characters!

I usually start with an image in my mind. Then, the character slowly takes place. I don't know what themes the character has until I begin playing as them. It sounds corny, but the more I play them, the more they become their own person and at a certain point I don't make the decisions, "they" do (which sucks, when you want them to do something for the plot but it doesn't make sense/they wouldn't do it!)

I start with something that's been on my mind, either to satirise it for character beliefs or as inspiration and vibes

(for Lernaean, it was wealth inequality, the billionaire social calendar, Gossip Girl & Succession and interest in making a character to reflect in a Bizarro-esqe juxtaposition compared to their related family characters) and (for Jiangshi/Driver, it was sort of the lonely warrior/samurai or old man Logan esqe trope, I had just watched the John Wick franchise and Seven Samurais for the first time and Old Boy a bit later on and had seen a lot of noir movies with older protags which made me want him to be considerably older than the contemporary player as well as to just switch it up.

I think characters are always better if you can in your mind mimmick their distinct voice. Does your character think before they talk? How's their accent? How good would their vocab be? Do they have little ults they pull, Do they know Japanese at all? Like you after 3 or 4 interactions with my character should be able to write dialogue for me and how much so? And the more so the better I end up feeling I did

With Lernaean, I sorta went with a Sheldon Cooper/Brainiac approach for a while before giving him "bug eyes" to make the nerd angle more glaringly obvious. Later on I toned that down and kept up with the fish out of water vibes in other ways such as odd hat wear and inability to socialise

With Jiangshi, he has two distinct personas one for criminal life as Driver and one for himself. I considered this a sort of dual personality Jackyll & Hyde/Batman sorta thing. Driver can only speak in monologues or not at all, is slightly politically backwards as he was formerly a cop, and then as a citizen he was a Evil Miyagi father,, unavailable emotionally to his children in the forms of missing obvious cues or being unable to adequately explain emotions and then as a smoker but with a sort of Homer Simpson "it all works out in the end of the episode because they love each other" appeal to his relationship to them. So it's either played for casual laugh or its a more emotional arc for the characters and that changed on a whim
