Hyakugan-Mushi | Subterranean ๅœฐไธ‹ใฎ
"The Hundred-Eye Worm"

In what can only be described as pure malevolence, a serpentine figure took shape. Coated in cerulean skin, the beast bears nest to its nearly hundred eyes. Protruding from its center, its armed with numerous appendages, in which are used to shovel filth into its maw.

The Sewers of Norowarejima | Location & Information

Churning beneath the bustling city of Norowarejima, is a labyrinthian expanse of grime coated waterways and passages, designed to provide a route for the everyday civilian to expel waste from their homes. What was originally constructed to aide the city, now serves as an easy opening to fester crime, filth, and deceit beneath. The system stretches far deeper than necessity alone would suggest. Chambers sit lower than natural, predating much of the city above, descend into stonework older than the modern city itself. Certain areas remain sealed, warded, or deliberately left unrecorded. These areas are commonly avoided by workers and officials alike, spoken rarely of only in seldom whispers.

The Curse of Hyakugan-Mushi | ็™พ็œผ่™ซ

Hyakugan-mushi was not born, it was gathered. Long before Norowarejima flourished into a city, the isle served as a place where filth, physical and spiritual, festered. Shame, abandonment, and the unspoken suffering of those who were cast aside, soaked beneath the earth. In that depth, a formless curse grew on those negative emotions. It fed on people who refused to confront their misery, and left unseen, their rot was left to fester. Over time, the mass grew aware, and that awareness bred shape.

As the city expanded further, its waste trickled beneath, nourishing that thing below. The curse learned to twist perception, blurring what was real and what was not, rewarding those who endured squalor with unsettling insight whilst quietly feeding upon them. Streets above began to twist, shrines breaking, as reflections lingered longer than natural. Exorcists came to name the presence below, Hyakugan-mushi, the Hundred-Eyed worm, for it seemed to watch the city from every filthy street corner that shadowed the city.

Unable to destroy the very incarnate of filth, the high priests of Byakuyakoku sealed it within its cocoon, and bound it to the deepest sewer chambers with holy rites of cleansing and warded stone. Now, it sleeps, waiting to feed once more on the negativity that gave it life, and the discomfort people take in living unclean lives. So long as filth is tolerated and despair is ignored, the maggot god beneath Norowarejima will continue to grow; patient, watching, and waiting.
