What’s your IGN?:

Lunere

What's your Discord Tag?:

lunetoria

Do you have any alternative accounts?:

Yes.
Lunent
Luneator

Do you have a functioning microphone?:

No, I’m uncomfortable speaking in VC’s but I can join them to listen.

How old are you?:

I am twenty years of age. I will be turning twenty one this upcoming August.

Have you worked in teams like this before?:

I’ve never worked on an official writers team before. This would be my first if I were to get accepted.

Do you have any previous experience?:

In fact, I do. When it comes to lore or writing in general I have plenty of experience. First we have the most basic thing which is essay assignments for school. Yay! Honestly, I hated writing essays but if it was a topic that caught my interest then I would enjoy it.

That’s usually when my writing gets good as well. Some other experience I have when it comes to writing is families on another roleplay server. I’ve written lore for a few families, such as lore documents.

However, my most experience when it comes to writing is character lore. I have several documents for a few characters I’ve made based on their backstory and overall their development.

I’ve made a fun fictional story in the world of Skyrim based on one of my OCs as well. Which I find really interesting and cool on my behalf.

What do you believe is your writing strong suit?:

Personally, I believe my writing strong suit is writing in general. As well as my creativity. I can keep writing and writing without getting bored or tired of it as long as I’m enjoying it. When it comes to writing the topic that’s given to me or based on my creative writing I must enjoy it. If I don’t enjoy it or I get bored of it too quickly then I’ll fall out of it.

Why are you interested in joining the Lore Team?:

The most obvious answer I could mention is my love for writing. I love writing out my creativity and imagination and forging it into lore. I’ve also never been on an official lore team before which gives me only more motivation to give this a chance. Another thing I’d like to mention is that it is pretty obvious that YRP is still in development. This is a huge plus for most of the writers on the team because they get to brainstorm many unique ideas with their creativity.

This also gives them a chance to actually bring their ideas to life for the server. I’m really excited about this server and learning that they’re looking for writers only has me more hyped.

How did you learn about the server?:

I learned about this server through a friend's discord server. One day I was just scrolling through a channel and saw a link to the YRP forums. I then saw it had a Discord and decided to join and I’m still here.

What unique contributions can you bring to the server?:

As someone who is passionate about writing and has a love for it I believe I can bring that to the server. Like I mentioned earlier, YRP is still in development which brings so many open opportunities for the writers. Another thing I want to mention is that I’m also a beta-tester for the server so I already have a feel of what’s been added so far, location wise. Even though everyone who gets accepted as a writer will get access to the server I still believe that’s a unique contribution.

However, this is about writing contributions I can offer to the server. One of the contributions I could bring is player-driven mysteries. I believe adding this to YRP would bring an eerie feeling, and it’d fit with the vibe it already gives off. It’s said to believe that the island roams with spirits. Yokai or not.

Creating lore mysteries for players to find out through characters such as clues, riddles, or secret areas to find the answer would be very thrilling to experience. Another idea I’d like to mention is writing about an old family that was a samurai clan. It’d fit well with the YRP culture and setting. It’d also be an interesting lore piece to read. Perhaps the actions the family did, brought a heavy influence to the island and how it came to be in the present time.

Speaking of families, learning about the Hatano family and how they came to fund the hospital got me thinking. It’d be pretty unique if players could get the chance to have their family become a legacy family. Meaning their family has brought an impact to the island through character. Which could grab the lore team’s attention and could have that family become a legacy family for the server.

In simpler terms, an official family.

I believe adding this would create interesting role plays and even more lore for the server if it was done through character. I also believe it’s more interesting doing it this way then picking who can become a legacy family out-of-character.

Another contribution I could bring to the server is a myth or more so a curse. The idea I had in mind for this is that every one hundred years something disastrous happens to the island. Whether that is an earthquake, a war, a sleeping spirit or Yokai awakening. However, the people of this island just believe it’s a myth or a so-called rumour until the day it finally happens.

I believe adding something like that could bring interest and a sense of intriguing feelings towards the community.

Honestly, there are probably a lot more contributions I can offer to the server. These are just some examples of what my creativity can bring.

Write a short story of a Self-Made Yokai you can find roaming throughout the island:

Being perfect is impossible. That didn’t stop Dr. Takeda Akira who was a dedicated physician at the Norowarejima Hospital. Any nondiagnostic illness that would come to the hospital, Dr. Takeda would make sure to find a diagnosis for that patient. He never misdiagnosed anyone during the time of his career. The man hated seeing ill patients and didn’t want them to die.

One day, a sick child came into the hospital and Dr. Takeda was called to examine them. The child’s illness had greatly progressed and was extremely life threatening. This left Dr. Takeda desperate to save the child and caused him to rush the diagnosis. The physician mistakenly treated the child with the wrong illness and had to watch the child painfully die.

This left the physician enraged by his foolish acts and cursed himself to never make a mistake again. Over time, Dr. Takeda strangely began hearing whispers throughout the hospital halls. These whispers would be from unseen patients as they softly spoke their symptoms outwards to Takeda. Oddly enough, none of these symptoms would be linked to any known disease. However, each time Dr. Takeda made a diagnosis, every new case the symptoms would turn into something supernatural.

The symptoms included limbs being so stiff like concrete, skin oddly falling off like a thread as if it was badly sunburnt, and eyes melting like icing as if they stared at the sun for too long. Overwhelmed by these symptoms and the guilt he held deeply, Dr. Takeda locked himself in his office. The man feverishly wrote endless, perfect diagnoses for patients who didn’t even exist. Weeks later, a colleague found Dr. Takeda slumped over his messy desk, unresponsive. It was later announced that he was dead.

At the time his body was found, at his desk there were medical charts with patient names who weren’t even living. Over time, the obsession Dr. Takeda had slowly turned him into a Yokai called Shindansha. This Yokai is an eternal physician and an internal madness.

Now in present time, rumours are said that Shindansha lurks in the hospital halls. It is said to believe if Shindansha encounters a patient who is ill then it will “diagnose” that patient. That patient will then develop symptoms with a false diagnosis, no matter how unrealistic it may be. Another rumor that is said is Shindansha will leave a mysterious patient chart on the hospital's front desk. Every night.

If a hospital staff reads the patient's name from the mysterious chart, that hospital member is doomed to suffer a tragic event within the next three days. The final rumor that has been spoken from patients who are on the verge of death, claim to hear a soft voice and list out diseases they don’t even have. If the patient responds to the voice, their real illness will vanish and will be replaced by a curse that cannot be cured.

Questions have come across the citizens of the island on how to avoid him but no one has been able to figure that out. Will you be the citizen to find that answer?

Write a quick event based on Japanese pop-up cafes/restaurants/stores (Promotional cafes based on media such as anime, gaming, spirits, etc.):

Nazonazo Book Cafe!

Who doesn’t love books?

The Vanishing of Nishimura Kei’s Document

It’s the first full moon of the spring and Nazonazo has recently acquired an ancient document from an anonymous donation. The document is said to be attributed to a missing author from Norowarejima that’s unfinished. The final chapters were mysteriously blank; no trace of ink was seen on the old papers. The Nazonazo staff invites the citizens of Norowarejima, preferably literature lovers and historians to join us in this reading event.

Participants will help us analyze the citations and have open discussions about theories that surround the author's disappearance. From dug up records, the author- Nishimura Kei, a writer known for his work on folklore and psychological horror- was last seen at his residence in the 1980s before disappearing without a trace. The only evidence left behind was his notebook filled with incoherent passages. The document was questioned as it striked similarities to the notebook, raising speculation about if this was Kei’s last piece of work.

I believe adding an eerie event such as a pop-up book cafe will help bring intriguing citizens together. Not only does this event focus on historical images, but the psychological tension, and the suspense of unsolved mysteries will shape this event into something unique.

How would you write the atmosphere of the image provided below? (Byakuyakoku Shinto Monastery):
(Must be at least 200 characters long, describing the characteristics, atmosphere as well as including some personal ideas about Byakuyakoku.)

When the term Shrine comes to your mind, what feeling does it bring to you? I’d hope that peace, quietness, and serenity would be some of your feelings.

As you enter the Shinto Monastery, a sense of calmness would hit your soul. Each graceful step you took on this sacred land brought you ease. The Byakuyakoku Shinto Monastery is the most important landmark of Norowarejima. It holds not only the calmness of the area it surrounds but it is also peaceful and quiet for the ones we have lost. This is the place where you can feel free and safe, a personal sanctuary.

Whether it’s rain or shine, the atmosphere of the landmark will never change. The gentle breeze welcomes the visitors as they walk up the mountain. The cool temperatures hit their bare skin as a resemblance of the kami’s presence. It’s the place where prayers are made and linger but are never forgotten.

The lanterns throughout the monastery glow with a soft pulse as if the fires were breathing in peace. The wild life roams throughout the land respecting not only the monastery but the guardians of Byakuyakoku.

The monastery could be seen filled with many structures. One of them being the hot springs, a common way for citizens to release any stress with relaxation given from the comforting waters. Another building held a ramen shop, great for comfort foods for all visitors to experience. Other buildings are used to make traditional tea to bring small gatherings to talk or to bring sootheness to themselves.

As you venture further into the monastery you come across three statues. These statues each have a name. Mokuko, the silent guardian, symbolizes the secrets it's kept and the unspoken truths buried within the monastery. The citizens believed it was a way to confess their sins to Mokuko, keeping it sealed forever.

Shiko, the watchful guardian, symbolizes the prophecies and judgements that the island may come across. Some believe if you looked right at the guardian it’d show your fate. However, it hasn’t been witnessed.

Finally, Giko, the bearer of karma, protects the monastery grounds with spiritual barriers. To bring peace towards the people and to ensure those who entered with evil to be repelled.

These very own statues are believed to be the ancestors who created the Byakuyakoku Shinto Monastery and are forever worshipped.

You have been tasked to write an in-lore influential character in the history of Norowarejima. Who and what would you create? Provide some insight on the character!:
(e.g., A previous Journalist from 30 years ago named Nagasaki Itto).

“Spirits aren’t evil. Yokai aren’t evil. They only want to be heard. To be seen. Yet, we ignored them and look what happened.”

Miki Nishizawa was born in the 1700s during the Edo period, a time where Norowarejima was at battle with the living and the spirits. The high ruling class did not accept the spiritual realm, thinking that it brought bad luck to their home. Miki Nishizawa was a different being. The girl was born with a weak body, a mysterious illness that left her seeing unexplainable visions at random times. Though, this didn’t stop her from possessing a mind so intelligent.

The visions Miki witnessed were far more unlike anything the people have ever heard of. The girl would always tell everyone about the shadow figures lurking in the forest. How she heard whispers across the depths of the island. Miki even spoke of names that belonged to ancient Yokai, yet the girl never knew them. Strange isn’t it?

The citizens of Norowarejima thought Miki was cursed, but some of them thought she was the chosen one by the spirits themselves. To act as some sort of voice. To be heard. Despite her weak body, her mind still excelled than any scholar the island had seen.

She even had the uncanny ability to decipher messages from her visions to communicate with the spirits. Every vision she witnessed. Every Yokai. Every single piece of information she learned about, Miki recorded it all. These writings would later become known as the Reikoku no Sasshi which is translated into Pamphlets of the Spirit’s Divine.

The whereabouts of these documents however remained unknown. One day, Miki tried to approach the ruling class about proposing a truce with the spirits. However, they dismissed her words and told her she was delusional. They denied that the spiritual realm ever existed. To some of the citizens Miki became known as the Yokai no Tsuge, which is translated into The Speaker of Spirits, due to the visions she saw.

She was a figure that would slowly become feared due to her visions. As she got older, the illness she had progressed even faster and worsened her visions. They became more urgent as they foreshadowed a meaning that their battle would only collapse further. Miki tried to warn the high ruling class about this but they continuously denied the existence of the spiritual world.

The girl mentioned that this battle continued on without any truce between the humans and the spirits, then Norowarejima would fall into an eternal doom. Before Miki died from her illness, she hid her pamphlets across the island. She made sure to embed them in forgotten areas, beneath the roots of sacred grounds, within the walls of abandoned buildings. After her passing, some citizens believed she left one final message to the island.

Her last warning of what was to come. “If we silence the spirits, they will be angered. We cannot ignore them or their screams will consume the island.”

The ruling class did not heed to Miki’s warning. Instead, they tried to erase her existence from history to prevent the spiritual realm being brought up. From their negligence, the high class worsened the battle between the two realms. A by-product of this was Norowarejima falling into a never ending darkness. A void swarmed the island and spirits started to inhabit it.

They never recovered after it happened. The island became a curse to the spirits that roamed the land. Unfortunately, some citizens fell into the hands of cursed spirits causing some of them to curse themselves.

As the years went by, rumors began to spread about Miki Nishizawa and her writings. Some say that her pamphlets hold the key to restore the light that Norowarejima could’ve had. To have a balance. Some say that this key will unleash something far more worse than the warnings she held. Even some citizens believe her spirit still lingers across Norowarejima, spectating everyone.

It is said that the Byakuyakoku Shinto Monastery came across one of Miki’s documents. The Kinnushi was informed of it and decided to keep this hidden from the public. The Shrine members were informed if they ever came across Miki’s pamphlets, to immediately bring them to the Kinnushi. The goal was to recover them all and keep it as valuable information for the island’s sake, but to also prevent history from repeating itself.

Today, Miki Nishizawa roams the island as a spirit in hopes that someone will contact her. To listen to her and heed the warnings she has so she can bring peace to the spirits and the humans inhabiting the island. Will you be that person?

Additional Notes:
I thank you for taking the time to read my application. I must say that the prompts to this form were very enjoyable to fill out. It also puts my creativity to work alongside my writing skills.
