The spiritual current tidally locked around Norowarejima, Sazanami-no-Kaze was personally chosen by Susanoo-no-Mikoto to serve as the cursed isle’s warden. Once a mere current, she now manifests as a great spiritual storm, she retains control over all that resides upon the island. Her presence surrounds the isle without pause, as an unbroken current of waves that binds the land and those upon it. Through this form she maintains absolute authority over all who dwell upon Norowarejima, restricting and controlling the flow of spiritual energy, so that spirits may never leave. As the Personification of Order, Sazanami-no-Kaze is unwaveringly strict, and deeply obsessed with control. Believing that stability can only exist through careful balance and control, her ruling is uncomfortably firm. Despite this, she does not govern out of cruelty, but from the urge to protect all that live outside of the island’s boundaries.
Second Sight [Innate] [Effect]
Accessible to all Vessels from the point of creation, bearing the soul-shard of a spirit, grants the living mortal the innate ability to view spirits who are not actively hiding themselves.
A requirement to become a Vessel through painful ritual with a spirit, the victim’s soul is cracked, and replaced with a piece of the spirit’s. Essentially becoming a walking Veil into Yomi, the Vessel may freely view spirits who actively do not conceal their presence. Should they choose to hide, the Vessel can only note that there is an odd presence about the area which the spirit remains within.
Ability Restrictions
- This is a passive effect, and is activated upon creation.
- The process of becoming a Vessel is excruciating, as the spirit tears out a piece of the Vessel’s soul, and replaces it with a piece of their own.
- Should the spirit be willing, they can further implant more pieces of their soul into a Vessel to increase their power.
- As the Vessel now shares the soul-shard of a spirit, they are now defined as a ‘Spiritual Being’.
- Now sharing the spiritual energy of a spirit, the Vessel may glimpse into the afterlife and witness spirits. Should the spirit make any attempt to conceal their presence, the Vessel can no longer physically view them, only now noting there is an odd presence about the location of the spirit.
Eternal Confinement [Innate] [Effect]
As Vessels splinter their souls in order to gain power, they now fall subject to the divine mandate of confinement upon the prison isle of Norowarejima.
No spirit is free to leave the isle, and as Vessels now share the soul, they now share the effect. Permanently bound to never stray from the isle, Sazanami-no-Kaze’s divine current will always drag them back to shore.
Ability Restrictions
- This is a passive effect, and is activated upon creation.
- Any Spiritual Being, including Vessels, are now permanently bound to remain on Norowarejima, unless they gain explicit permission to leave, or find means to escape otherwise.
- As Sazanami-no-Kaze, the Warden of Norowarejima’s influence extends throughout the sea, most, if not all Spiritual beings find themselves naturally adverse to seawater. This effect does not apply to travelling to the outer barrier islands, but Spiritual Beings may prefer to use Veils to travel there instead.
Tidal-locked [Remnant] [Effect]
Those of Sazanami-no-Kaze’s Vessels are subject to her overwhelming compulsion for control.
A pawn of the warden of Norowarejima, you are permanently bound to remain upon the isle, forever tethered to its controlling current. Vessels may find themselves increasingly rigid, structured, and intolerant of disorder. Constantly striving for control, Vessels may feel repulsed when others give them orders, as they are viewed as lesser beings. Even in moments of rest, there lingers an insistent urge to direct, and dominate.
Ability Restrictions
- This is a passive effect, and is activated upon creation.
- The Vessel finds disorder and chaos unfathomably annoying. Doing whatever they can to instill rules and regulations.
- This urge can be externally subdued, but internally, chaos will chip away at the Vessel’s sanity, requiring frequent meditation and methods of control to ease the urge.
Purified [Remnant] [Ability]
The Vessel may create and store spiritually purified saltwater through ritualistic invocation.
After a brief freeform ritual and the invocation of Sazanami-no-Kaze’s name, the Vessel becomes attuned to the subtle currents of purification that flow through saltwater. In this state, they are able to cleanse and purify small quantities of water with salt, rendering it suitable for use in sacred or ceremonial practices. While only capable of purifying small amounts at a time, the water produced through this process is regarded as spiritually refined and intentionally prepared for purposes of purification and renewal. The Vessel is also capable of storing this water in small amounts, to stockpile for deific purposes.
Ability Restrictions
- The ritual must consist of at least two lengthy emotes with clear effort put into each message. The first emote consisting of the invocation of the spirit’s name, the second emote manifesting the spiritual energy into visible form.
- The Vessel must make a ticket with valid screenshots of purification roleplay, and will be given an item counterpart to use for each successful ritual.
- Purified can only purify a maximum of 4 meters worth of water.
- This ritual can only be done twice every OOC day, failed rituals still count toward this number.
Buoyant [Remnant] [Effect]
The Vessel experiences a natural affinity with sea water, capable of moving through it with unnatural ease.
Whilst most Vessels are naturally adverse to sea water, Sazanami’s are different. Finding extreme ease in water related activities, it's as if their very soul longs for the freedom of swimming whilst their body remains in perfect order with the waves.
Ability Restrictions
- This is a passive effect, and is activated upon creation.
- This effect circumvents the natural aversion that ‘Eternal Confinement’ creates with sea-water.
- As long as the Vessel is actively making an effort to swim, they cannot drown. This does not mean they are unable to drown if they are forced, or fall unconscious.
Undertow [True] [Effect]
The Vessel may receive fragmented bouts of foresight of incoming chaos through the eye of Sazanami-no-Kaze’s storm.
As Sazanami-no-Kaze’s current floods the Vessel’s mind, their consciousness briefly entangles with the restless tides of her order. In these moments, they may preemptively witness incoming moments of chaos before they manifest within the waking world. This foresight is rare, and not freely wielded as Sazanami-no-Kaze will shield the sanity of her Vessels, by only allowing them to witness glimpses manifest only as horrifying nightmares of incomprehensible horrors. With careful reflection, the Vessel can interpret these fragments and use them to prepare themselves or warn others of fated danger.
Ability Restrictions
- This is a passive effect, and is activated upon creation.
- The Vessel must undergo meditation within close proximity to the ocean to gain these effects of foresight.
- The Vessel cannot use this ability freely to metagame eventlines.
- The Vessel must make a ticket after methods of meditation within close proximity to the ocean, and only then may they be allowed to know pieces of future calamity events.
- Vessels can only glean for future events once per OOC week.
- Undertow causes the Vessel to get frequent nightmares.
Sanctified [True] [Ability]
The Vessel can utilize Purified saltwater freely, manipulating it combatively.
Utilizing the stored water created during the Purified ritual, the Vessel may freely use the purified saltwater combatively. Capable of telekinetically manipulating the water in short bursts or distances, it can be shot outwards in spheres, or arced akin to a blade to strike spiritual enemies. Each use of this water must require the permanent usage of one of the stored containers.
Ability Restrictions
- Every use of this ability requires a permanent destruction of the water container counterpart of Purified. Once an attack is made, the item must be destroyed.
- Purified water used combatively inflicts a burning pain on contact with spirits.
- The Vessel can either create a 1x1x1 meter ball of this purified water to blast at opponents, carrying the concussive force of a punch.
- The Vessel can create a 2 meter wide slashing arc of this water, inflicting a minor laceration upon unguarded flesh.
- Sanctified has a maximum range of 8 meters before the water becomes inert.
- Sanctified only works with Purified, mundane saltwater cannot be utilized.
- Sanctified can be performed a maximum of twice per combat encounter.
Anchor [True] [Ability]
The Vessel can utilize Sazanami-no-Kaze’s order to momentarily pause an oncoming attack.
By invoking Sazanami-no-Kaze’s name, the Vessel can momentarily anchor an incoming spiritual attack in place. Should this be used skillfully, a weapon could be frozen mid-swing, movement halted for a moment, or create a barrier with debris. Vessels should be warned, as this method of invocation is extremely draining on the soul, and can only be utilized twice per day before they fall into an unconscious state of exhaustion.
Ability Restrictions
- The ritual must consist of at least two lengthy emotes with clear effort put into each message. The first emote consisting of the invocation of the spirit’s name, the second emote manifesting the spiritual energy into visible form. Lasts one emote.
- This ability can only be used on beings of equal strength, with beings stronger than them, falling victim to slowed attack speed.
- Anchor can be performed a maximum of twice per OOC day.
Drowning Word [Perfect] [Ability]
A perfect manifestation of Sazanami-no-Kaze’s order, the Vessel may shout to instill a command unto victims.
Following a short, freeform ritual which must include the invocation of Sazanami-no-Kaze’s name, the Vessel can instill a commanding word unto a group of maximum three targets. This is extremely detrimental to the Vessel’s soul, and can only be utilized once per day, lest the Vessel wish to shatter their own soul. Only three words can be invoked, that of ‘Crash’, ‘Recede’, and ‘Freeze’.
If ‘Crash’ is commanded, the victim would feel an unbreakable staggering, causing them to collapse unto the ground, as if crushed beneath the weight of the waves.
If ‘Recede’ is commanded, the victim would feel as if they are blasted away from the Vessel, forcing them to retreat or reapproach from another angle.
If ‘Freeze’ is commanded, the victim would feel the urge to freeze in place, unable to defend or attack, as if a typhoon raged inside their heads, obscuring their thought process.
Ability Restrictions
- The ritual must consist of at least two lengthy emotes with clear effort put into each message. The first emote consisting of the invocation of the spirit’s name, the second emote manifesting the spiritual energy into visible form. Commanded effects last two emotes.
- No physical damage can be caused by any commanding word.
- Victims of Drowning Word can choose to resist the commands, but require two dedicated emotes of resisting control to do so.
- Drowning Word can only be applied to those within normal RP text radius.
- Drowning Word can be performed a maximum of once per OOC day.
