╰┈➤ˎˊ˗ Whats and whys

Hello forum prowlers! I am on of YJ's dev, and we wanted your thoughts on a potential feature (we will need to run this by the directors :( but positive receptions here will help tons)
But words are cheap, here's some cool gifs of what we got going!

Handholding animation!

So, what is going on in there? Is this vanilla minecraft? Do I need to install some sort of mods?
This is fully vanilla, needs zero mods from you and works in shaders! Bring your favorite complementary, photon, BSL, it will still work!
No longer will you have awkward moments of not being able to walk together and awkwardly walk too far ahead or too far back!
But that's not all... we have another one for the GangRP enjoyers.. carry with dragging!

In all of these, you are free to turn your head around and your model will also tilt their head around as well! So you aren't just static, and you can nod, shake your head, turn your head down to make you look unconscious!
If this is received positively, we would likely expand this to multiple sitting variations/animations. You can have a sleepyhead that sits and dozes off every so often! Or different carry styles like piggyback or whatever you prefer!

If you are the person performing the carry, you have full movement! Drag the player of your choice to anywhere you want. The goal of this piece-of-concept is to give more varieties for carrying!

╰┈➤ˎˊ˗ Question for the community!
First off, thank you for taking your time to read through this post. We are the part where I want to hear your feedback and how you find these features.
I'll do my best to respond to everything on this thread. A few questions I want to leave open (you can also respond to ask anything else!)

  • Do you feel like this is an unwelcome change?
  • Do you find that this can be used in other areas?
    • For hospital cases with the bed things to carry unconscious players
    • Animations like book reading for characters that generally read books
    • Animations like doomscrolling for any characters that are chronically online
  • Do you feel that if we add too many animations, this would damper the amount of detailRP? And if so, is this an unwelcome change to you? Are there anything we can do to add animations and not compromise the depth of detailRP?
  • Are there any animations you personally feel like if added, would elevate your roleplaying experience?
    • And on the contrary, do you feel like there are animations that if added, might degrade your experience?

╰┈➤ˎˊ˗ Some anticipated questions!
Q: Would this be laggy?
A: It should not be in a significant way!

Q: Will this make the resourcepack I have to download bigger?
A: Not at all! This will not increase the resourcepack size

Q: Can I use shaders with this? Will it break on sodium + iris?
A: It will work with AND without shaders!

Q: Do I need some external mod or anything?
A: None! This is purely vanilla

As an avid detailrper, I'd like to think that what makes roleplaying so charming is the ability to make do with nearly nothing except for words and creativity! Of course it's silly to look at someone be standing still but in actuality they're doing the world's sickest breakdance in the world via detailrp.

I personally do not want to take that aspect of roleplaying away, however!

I GREATLY like the idea of an animation that engages with the other player, like hand-holding! Or dragging! I think that's really cute (THE HANDHOLDING NOT THE DRAGGING BY THE COLLAR)! And can even be useful so that, yk, you can actually drag someone along and it would look natural. I think that engagement brings a lot of potential in roleplaying!

As such, maybe additional animations to consider can be hugging?

HI POOKIE

Ideally this would not take away from DetailRP, since part of the fun is in being able to express what your character is doing through words. I hope that if this gets greenlit, it goes in a direction way we do not take away that creative liberty

I am really happy to hear that dragging is taken positively, and handholding! It is so ridiculously cute, would love to see people waltzing around using it

Hugging would be such a nice addition as well. I would love for us to have a lot of these cute dual emotes. @HampterHunter what do we think about hugging?

Hugging is easy yeah, i can see some neat animation ideas.

But yeah, I too have a worry this might encourage lazy writing, and so that's why my vision for this is more of a.... emotes/animations that's not made in focus to replace action, but rather compliments a detailRP, something broad, or something modular.

Definitely. It'd be nice if these things help set the scene or add more to the character than the need to detail your actions.

Hugging dual emote would be so cute though. We might need different animations for different heights though

IMO, I'd like to see animations that affect multiple players like holding hands and dragging, I don't feel like doomscrolling or reading a book is really necessary when it can just be mentioned through rp.

Hi Hols!

I agree with this. I want to make sure these gestures don't end up taking the fun or flavor of actually writing out your actions.

I am sure there's an argument somewhere for "just don't use it" that can be made, but I don't think it's fair here. Since if we decide to make things like bookreading and phone scrolling emote, we might inadvertently create a culture that supports not detailing your actions through rp.

Overall, really happy to see that dual emotes are taken well, and will for sure note in our proposal for this that we don't want emotes that can replace actions (as like above, bookreading and doomscrolling)

WOWZERS! ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!

🍓 I honestly think this is a great idea, and I don’t think it’ll take away from DetailRP at all..

Roleplay can be super fast paced, especially in a videogames where so much is already happening on screen! Sometimes there isn’t enough time to detail every action, and animations can help immerse everyone involved rather than replace DetailRP entirely.

I also think visuals naturally encourage more interaction!! Me and my friends sometimes avoid approaching new people in RP because we genuinely can’t tell what’s happening. Are they being kidnapped? AFK? Busy with another scene???? Visual cues like dragging, handholding, and carrying make situations easier to read and can help people engage more naturally IMO!

"Oh em GOSH. ARE THEY HOLDING HANDS?!?!?"
"Hah.. They must be together."

Actioning certain things feels awkward,, and makes me feel like I'm begging to be interacted with even though it's not the case.

The concern of lazy writing is fair, but I think that mostly applies to single person animations like doomscrolling or book reading. Even then, adding those mannerisms can help you gage what's going on from a distance even if you can't read their action. Dual animations actively support interaction between players instead of replacing written actions.

This server already has a ton of creative features from what I’ve seen, so I honestly think additions like this would fit in SUPER DUPER well!

Hi! First off, super happy to see long responses and how well dual emotes are being received.

I agree with this a lot. I am sure everyone's different, but I have a lot of difficulties keeping track of the state of every person participating in an rp (sometimes even for one-on-one) and imagining the scene.

I also think visuals naturally encourage more interaction!! Me and my friends sometimes avoid approaching new people in RP because we genuinely can’t tell what’s happening.
Really really happy to see views like this. If these features can end up making scenes more approachable to walk into, that is amazing news. I didn't think about it, but as you've said, it helps to contextualize when you see two characters walking together or being carried -- are they walking together, side-by-side, holding hands, being literally dragged across the pavement, you can't really tell without asking.

The concern of lazy writing is fair, but I think that mostly applies to single person animations like doomscrolling or book reading. Even then, adding those mannerisms can help you gage what's going on from a distance even if you can't read their action.
Again, this is a really good point. I never considered on how these are helpful cues to people looking from afar or just joining into the roleplay scene. Definitely going to be a big point on proposing this as an official feature

Thank you!! Wanted to drag @YonioTheNacho in as well, he's made a LOT (10 times or 20 times what I do) in terms of creative plugins that you see. It means a lot to hear that people like these creative directions.

In any case, thank you for the post feedback! Hopefully when this goes through, we might actually get some solo characterization emotes like bookreading and such.
